Spring / Summer 16

Mermaid

Alle Sirene giungerai da prima,
Che affascinan chiunque i lidi loro
Con la sua prora veleggiando tocca.
Chiunque i lidi incautamente afferra

Omero - Odissea, Canto XII (vv. 52-61)

Waves crash onto the sharp and coarse rocks.
A sweet singing voice dissolves into the wind
and into the soft light of sunrise.
A figure stands out on the steep rocks.
She, a pure and primordial beauty, strong
and untameable, persuades with her sweet look.
She is of veiled nature, almost a Mermaid,
shrouded by the smell of fruits and perfumes
of the sea, dressed up with soft nets that go
from being pale cerulean blue to turbid
and deep shades of the abyss, and her long hair,
gently touched by the sea breeze.
